A downloadable game

Koi Pond is a 1v1 execution based card game inspired by feeding Koi in a pond. You will need 18 cards from a standard deck:

  • 6 "food" cards (face cards of your choice)
  • 12 Koi/Duck cards (Any non-face cards. Face up represents Koi, while face down is Duck)

Start the game by giving each player 3 food cards and 6 Koi/Duck cards.

Pond Phase (Setup)

Assign each player a team (Koi or Duck). Find a roughly 6 ft by 6ft area to play.

Players alternate placing their Koi/Duck onto the pond. Players are placing targets for the enemy, the the Koi team player should place cards face down (Duck side up), and vice versa for the Duck team player.

The first placed card should be in the center of the play area. Any subsequent cards must be placed within 1 card length of another card.

Win Conditions

A player wins when either:

  • None of their team's cards is face up, or
  • The opposite player does not have any food

Gameplay

Players alternate turns. On a player's turn, they throw each of their food cards and resolve the effects one by one. After each throw,

  • Any Koi/Duck touching the thrown food are no longer hungry (get flipped over)
  • As long as none of the enemy team's cards is touched, the throwing player discards the food on their own side and continues throwing remaining food
  • If an enemy's card is touching the food, flip all touching cards as usual, and then
    • The food is given to the enemy's side
    • The enemy may move one of their team's cards anywhere in the play area (does not need to be within 1 card length)
    • The turn ends for the throwing player (They don't get to throw any more food)
  • Once a player has thrown all their food, their turn ends.

Example

The Koi player has three food. They throw one, and hit nothing. The food is discarded.

They throw their second food, and it's touching 2 Koi cards (face up cards). Both are flipped to Duck side up (face down), and the food is discarded.

They throw their third food, and it's touching 1 Koi and 1 Duck. Both are flipped, but the food is given to the enemy player. The enemy player moves a Duck card closer to them.

It's now the Duck player's turn, and they have 4 food cards to throw.
